Thursday/Friday Update

Two spectacular days in a row. Ruby actually got up on the field for a little football.

At line up today we heard accomplishments that were made around camp. Counselors are eager to share the campers achievements. We had shout outs in practically every sport including fishing. It’s great to hear what our fellow campers are doing around BSC

Tonight we finally got to have our first camp fire. This is a more solemn and serious occasion. The ashes from last season were added to the fire. Koop spoke to us about traditions, making friends, and appreciating the moment. Some of the veteran counselors reiterated this and talked about some life lessons, and things they actually learn from their campers. New campers stood and one of our older campers from last year read the BSC pledge. We listened to one of our campers play the guitar. You could hear a pin drop. He was awesome! After that we cheered had some fun and roasted marshmallows and had smores.

Thursday update

On the fields all morning. Sunny skies, a breeze, and no humidity! Perfect for lax, the pitch, baseball, flag football, archery, and Ruby! Campers gave a thumbs up for lunch. We had sloppy joe’s with mac & cheese.

After rest hour we cheered for our hockey guys. They played against Camp Wildwood. We lost, but we skated hard and really worked well as a team. Everyone enjoyed watching them skate.

Fifth period I finally made it to the weight room. First time I’ve been there this summer. Some of the boys were doing a routine that “Big Steve” made up for them. These camper’s are really working hard. Rumor has it …. many go back at night for some extra time and help. Thank you Steve!

Tonight was cookout. We ate up on the hill with our favorite counselors. I’m sure everyone was looking forward to phone calls and catching their families up on the happenings at BSC.

Tuesday update

Hot with a lot of humidity today. Perfect day to take the swim test down at the water front. EVERYONE passed. Second period was a wash. The entire camp had dodge ball in the gym. This was good practice for our on going games against Camp Wigwam.

Today at wrap up / line up Evan told us about today’s hockey majors. I would like to share what he said at line up. “Today in hockey we had a full controlled scrimmage where we worked on our power plays and penalty kills through game like situations. It was a little harder to implement the special teams due to the cleanliness of play on both sides. We then worked into a 3 v 3 neutral zone battle drill where we stressed communication and overall fundamentals. The kids were superb in all aspects of play and really gave us a base to move forward from.”

There is free play from 5:20 till 6:00 where I could see camper of all ages at the gaga pit.

At evening line up we had a lift off. These were the first rockets made at arts and crafts. The evening activitey was cancelled due to rain. Rookies had a movie in the air conditioned Humanities Center. Pro’s and seniors went to hoops or The Player’s Lounge. The movie was such a hit some of them decided to join the rookies.

Tomorrow Koop has ordered blue skies and temps in the 70’s 😉

A Great Monday

Campers now have had a full day of “majors”, “minors”, and choose up. Walking the fields I watched soccer, baseball, basketball & lax do drills with plenty of instruction. Three cheers to all our coaches!! They are doing what they’re passionate about and it really shows.

We always have two line ups. One before lunch and one before dinner. This is where we cheer and applaud the accomplishments of campers at different activities. Dillon is amazed at the talent on the soccer field. We had some first time ever campers get up on skies. We also had “THE BUCKET.” You’ll have to ask your sons about that tradition.

Hockey was a welcome relief from the fields. It had to have been 50 degrees cooler at the rink.

After dinner camper were divided into teams for the scavenger hunt. Koop will be taking winning team out of camp for ice cream. A great first day!!! I’m exhausted, but after a full day the boys are at the gaga pit. I’m sure everybody will sleep good tonight.

Session 2 has officially begun

Campers arrived safe and sound. After unpacking and settling in they could be found at gaga or hoops.

We had our first line up where Stone introduced the staff. They all got up and told us where they’re from and their specialty at camp. We have counselor from Scotland, England, Canada and all over in the states from as far as Colorado, Florida, and right here in Maine.

It was nice to see returning veterans embracing, hand shakes and high fives after not seeing each other since last summer. Also great to see how welcoming they were with new campers too.

From line up we had supper then evening activity. Rookies ( grades 3-5) had gaga. Professionals ( grade 6-8) had ultimate freebie, and seniors ( grade 9 & 10) met at the gym for a little basket ball.

Tomorrow they will get their schedules and start with their major etc….

Color War day 2

This morning was our last time at majors. We spent the afternoon divided between football and basketball. Competition is going right down to the wire. First thing Friday morning is the wacky relay race. The pie eating contest is saved for last. This is one competition that involves the whole camp and will probably decide the winner. Good luck to both teams.

At night is our final banquet and campfire. Hope you enjoyed our daily blog and viewing all the pictures. It was fun for us, and we will miss your boys!!!! Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Color War continues….

Color war was intense yesterday. We had dodge ball before breakfast, and it just kept going. In the morning we had our majors but there was competition within each sport. In the afternoon the seniors had a soccer match that took our breath away. Bridgton has never seen such amazing talent. The rookies had baseball, and it was culminated by track and field. The campers really put their heart and soul into all events. The score is extremely close.

Let The Games Begin!

Yesterday was amazing. We left camp at 9 on the dot and did not return till 7:30. We were wiped out. Some of us actually fell asleep on the bus ride home. We spent most of the morning in Splash Town. At noon we all met in the picnic area and had a lunch that Chef Chris packed in coolers for us. Most of us spent the afternoon in Fun Town. From the bus ride to our last bite of pizza it was a terrific day. Can we do it again tomorrow????

NO! ………… WHY NOT??

The games have begun!!! You can feel the spirit and excitement! The black team are the Kings and the red team is the Heat. We have terrific campers as captains. Lot’s of competition with good sportsmanship and fun will be had by all. I promise to keep you posted of all events.

Monday July 9

We couldn’t ask for a more beautiful day. Blue skies,no humidity, and a high of 80. Great day to be up on the fields. Camper’s had their regular schedules.

Our basketball players are at a tournament at Indian Acres. No news is good news!

The GaGa Pit is the place to be these days. The campers no matter what age, and the counselors love the game! Many of us have no idea about Ga Ga. Ask your son to explain.

Tonight we’re going to get to see the Home Run Derby

Lazy Sunday

Yes, we can sleep till 10:30 on Lazy Bone’s Sunday, but Koop had the TV in the players lounge and the dinning hall on so we could watch the finals at Wimbledon. Many of us decided not to sleep in.

This morning we had our long awaited paintball. Some of us looked very colorful at the end. Fun was had by all. Moms, NO INJURIES!

This afternoon we had a lacrosse game against Windham. Our boys were awesome!!! Let’s rack up another win in our column.

It’s hard to believe we’re in our final week with still so much more to do. Color War will break some time this week. Nobody seems to know when or how. It’s always a big surprise, and we have out big trip to Fun Town Spash town.
